Originally from Galway in the west of Ireland, Fergal O’Gara followed his Hokitika-born wife Wendy home to the West Coast before settling in Hokitika in 2004.

Majoring in Hotel Management at College Fergal went onto work in finance in the European hospitality industry, before a period at renowned international company Gillette. Once on the West Coast Fergal began working at Hokitika based business Arnold Products, a cleaning chemicals business, which he went on to purchase in 2006. Arnold Products was a client of Marshall and Heaphy. Fergal realised that he could assist in the growth of other businesses in the same way that he had partnered with Marshall and Heaphy to develop Arnold Products. To quote Gillette “He liked it so much he brought the business”, joining Marshall and Heaphy in 2008 after the sale of Arnold Products.

In his spare time Fergal enjoys spending time with friends and family, sports, particularly Rugby having represented the West Coast, and is a keen card player. He and Wendy have two young children. After having spent many years living in large European cities both Fergal and Wendy appreciate the close-knit community and lifestyle that the West Coast offers their growing family.

Fergal has a real interest in business and farming and likes to develop close working relationships with people in business. His friendly personality and small business experience means he is able to speak in a language you will understand.
